Direct Line Burglary Survey
Direct Line Insurance needed to demonstrate their expertise in and involvement with the topics surrounding Domestic Security and the fear of Burglary.
Although fear of Burglary remains high, its incidence is comparatively low in most areas and neighbourhoods. The requirement was to build an adequate sample to allow Direct Line an understanding of the issues, and to do so in a cost-effective manner.
Opinium Research carried out an online poll of 2,070 British adults in February 2009. Results were weighted to represent the UK Population; allowing regional analysis.
Of 2,070 UK Adults, 68% have never had the misfortune of being burgled. 31% have been burgled at some point in the past. [For a third (35%) this was more than 10 years ago.]. 12% have been burgled during the time they've lived in their current home. This provided us with a sub-sample of 239 Burglary victims among whom specific questions regarding the conditions of their burglary and their home security could be asked.
Since this first wave Direct Line Insurance have asked Opinium Research to repeat the survey in 2010.
