The Isle of Man Government commissioned Opinium to conduct a two-wave-survey amongst on-Island businesses to gain insights and understandings into the needs and concerns for local businesses and how they have been affected by the global recession.
Opinium Research hosted an online research survey investigating two areas:
1. How Isle of Man businesses were fairing in the economic downturn
2. Their expectations in terms of profits and growth for the next 12 months
The Isle of Man Government circulated the survey URL to a list of on island businesses spanning finance; e-business, e-gaming, aircraft, shipping and professional services to take part in the survey leaders, of whom 57 completed the survey. The survey was not incentivised.
On both occasions a report of the findings was prepared by Opinium Research. In the October 2009 report some comparative data was also used from the previous wave.
Both surveys showed that Isle of Man business confidence remained strong despite the economic downturn with an increase in October 2009 in the number of businesses that expected to post a profit over the next 12 months.
