A quarter of parents move to better school catchment areas

Research by Opinium on behalf of Santander revealed that one in four parents with school-aged children have moved to a better school catchment area, with London parents (46%) among those the most likely to do so.

One in five (20%) had to downsize, leave friends and family (21%) , or change jobs (17%) to move to a better catchment area. Over a quarter (27%) of families that move plan to leave as soon as their child has secured a school place.

A fifth (22%) admit that they have had to pay more for the property than they were able to comfortably afford. On average, families are willing to pay an 11% premium, or otherwise almost £24,000, to move to their desired catchment area.
