Description of technology services put to respondents

  • Google Cloud Computing (Applications and files are stored on a large, centralised supercomputer or network, ready to be downloaded when required by the end user) Video on Demand on the internet (Internet Television on demand e.g. BBC iPlayer, 4oD, Seesaw etc)
  • Google TV/ Google TV box (Television set/box that allows you to search and view the internet/social media/ your favourite TV programs from the internet on your
  • Apple TV – Version 2 (Video streaming of films and TV programmes from iTunes and applications that you can watch on your living room TV)
  • Project Canvas – an attempt to create an open, internet-connected television platform built on common standards for the Living room TV). Content will be available via third parties (e.g. traditional terrestrial TV/Digital providers and internet Television (iPlayer, Hulu). Other online content suppliers such as Lovefilm and Hulu will be able to build applications for the platform for the viewer to watch.
