Just one in eight employees has a mentor

Our research for AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) has found that just 13% currently have a mentor even though many recognise that having one can help them to upskill and set goals.

We spoke to employees and employers about their attitudes towards having a mentoring programme – in terms of being mentored and being the mentor.

More than half (53%) have acted as a mentor to someone else during their career, however, only a quarter (26%) have received mentoring themselves over the past five years. Just 22% of organisations represented by those surveyed currently run a mentoring programme – and just 5% of employees working in hotel, leisure and entertainment said they currently receive mentoring.

Despite this, 84% of employees who have received mentoring recognised it as a valuable experience – with 72% of those who have been a mentor agreeing it was worthwhile.
