The most taxing of life admin?

Research conducted by Opinium on behalf of Quickbooks shows one in five self-employed Brits would rather give a speech to 100 strangers than complete their self-assessment tax return.

No one enjoys doing paperwork – and this survey reveals the lengths many self-employed Brits would go to avoid the most dreaded piece of paperwork for the self-employed – the tax return.

One in five self-employed Brits would rather give a speech to 100 strangers (21%), spend a night in a haunted house (20%) and hold a tarantula for a minute (19%) than fill out their tax return.

Moreover, one in seven would rather get trapped in a lift (15%) and, crazily, one in eight would rather jump out a plane (12%).

Of course – as respondents were answering within the safety of an online survey, we can assume many people would not actually jump out of a plane (at least without a parachute). But what these melodramatic answers do show is the displeasure and apathy many self-employed Brits feel towards their tax returns.

This apathy can be explained by the fact Brits feel stressed when doing their tax return (39%), and just under half are concerned they are not even filling it out correctly (46%).
